The National Multi-sectoral Assessment on Kuchi collected information on geographical locations and migration routes for Kuchi communities in late 2003. The purpose of the assessment was to provide baseline information which can be used for planning and programming.

The Kuchi communities were surveyed in their winter locations, and GPS coordinates were taken. The summer locations and migration patterns are based upon reported data.

Maps with the geographical winter locations of the Kuchi communities and their migration routes have been placed on a dynamic server.

The address for the dynamic server is http://82.205.204.77/geonetwork/srv/en/vamsie.main

Types of Kuchi

Kuchi can be differentiated in:

- long range migratory Kuchi

- short range migratory Kuchi

- settled Kuchi

Separate maps are available for these categories of Kuchi.

Partially migratory communities

Certain Kuchi communities can be labeled as 'partially migratory communities', where a proportion of the households of the community is no longer migrating. These households remain in the same location, and can therefore be reached throughout the entire year.

Maps are available which show these partially migratory communities, where at least 25% of the households are non-migratory, and where at least 50% of the households are not migratory.

Migration routes

Separate maps have been created for the short-range and long-range migratory Kuchi. The number of households that are migrating from the same winter area to the same summer area have been aggregated. The width of the arrow represents the total number of households with the same migration pattern.

For the long-range migratory kuchi two maps are available; aggregated at district level and aggregated at province level.

For the short-range migratory Kuchi one map is available: aggregated at district level.
